How does the insurance cover in high-risk areas?

  • If the insured is situated in a country or area that during his stay is developed into a high risk area the insurance remains valid without coverage limitations, up until when the employer orders its employees to leave the area. Should the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issue an evacuation order, the unlimited coverage remain in force up until the first possible evacuation.

    Limitations and exceptions
The unlimited coverage applies given that the insured in no way participates in the events underlying the area being defined as a high risk area. If insured has participated in these events the insurance do not cover incidents/claims that in any way are connected to the events underlying the area being defined as a high risk area. ”Participation” is defined as participation in battle, demonstration, handling of weapons or mines or similar. Nursing or similar act of assistance is not considered as participation.

If the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues an evacuation order in a high risk area where insured is situated, and the insured declines to participate in such evacuation, the insurance remain in force, except for evacuation expenses at a later time and except for other claim related to insured participating in the events underlying the area being a high risk area.

If an insured leaves a high risk area (even temporary), he can not re-enter the high risk area with unlimited insurance coverage. In such case, the insurance apply according to what is stated below.

  • If insured choses to travel to an existing high risk area, included in the dissuasion against travel issued by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but not by an evacuation order, the insurance apply up until when the employer orders its employees to leave the area but not for direct or indirect damage connected to insured participating in the events underlying the events underlying the area being defined as a high risk area. Should the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issue an evacuation order for the area after the insured has entered the area the insurance will however cover evacuation expenses.

If the insured choses to travel to a high risk area, included in the dissuasion against travel and an evacuation order issued by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the insurance apply but not for any damage or expenses, direct or indirect, connected to insured participating in the events underlying the area being defined as a high risk area.

  • A high risk area is defined as a country or area struck by war, war-like event, rebellion, natural disaster, epidemic or similar, or area that for any other reason, according to Gouda, is to be considered as an area that induces an increased risk.
